Native Plants

In line with my interest in native pollinators I’ve become involved in the Pollinator Conservation Working Group at Habitat Network.  One of my goals for the gardens around our home is to increase the proportion of plants that are native to this area. To get a handle on the current conditions I consulted the spreadsheet I created to keep track of all species and cultivars I am growing or have attempted to grow. Originally I intended to post the entire list here, but at nearly 400 plants it seemed a waste of the Internet. Below are essentially three lists: plants native to my region (including some that are seeds currently in the propagation process), cultivars of plants native to my region (CV), and plants native to eastern North America (NA). No doubt it isn’t completely up to date so one of my goals for this year is to update it once everything is growing.

Below that is a list of the plants I am considering introducing into the garden. The main criteria are that they provide resources for pollinators and that they have at least some shade tolerance.
